Coal Creek Golf Course in Louisville just south of Boulder is a Dick Phelps Par 72 championship design featuring breathtaking views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains.
Measuring over 7000 yards, this layout incorporates elevation changes, water hazards and strategically placed sand bunkers along a terrain that provides a mix of open and teee lined fairways.
The green complexes are generally open in front providing golfers of all skill levels with options of utilizing a variety of chips and approaches to reach the hole. The putting surfaces
are mild in undulation and are often protected on the sides by sand traps. In total there are 30 bunkers, and water comes into play in some shape or form on 7 of the holes, with no
forced carries.
There are 4 sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 7028 yards/132 slope, 6602 yards/126 slope, 5978 yards/114 slope and 5185 with a slope of 119 for
women playing from the front tees. On course yardage markers are posted on the cart paths at 100, 150 and 200 yards, sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green,
and 150 yard stakes are posted on all par fours and fives. A pin placement chart on all carts indicates the day's hole locations.
The property includes a full service practice facility with grass range, short game area with sand bunker, plus putting green. The clubhouse includes a pro shop and
restaurant/lounge serving breakfast and lunch items. There is an outdoor pavilion for outings and special events. A beverage cart patrols the course, and all cart are conveniently
equipped with ball & club washers.
The bunkers are filled with high quality soft, gold sand, and the bluegrass fairways and tees (and bent grass greens) were in great shape on our August 2008 visit. Golfers will
encounter wide landing zones off the tee, and most green complexes have adequate recovery room. The back side features more elevation and undulations from tee to green. The
tips will challenge the best golfers, but this course is very score-able from the alternate sets.
