GRAND LAKE GOLF CLUB (970-627-8008)
Colorado golf course review
Grand Lake Golf Club in Grand Lake Colorado is a gorgeous golf course that is situated in a beautiful setting in the Grand Lake Metropolitan recreational District. Golfers drive for
a good ways along the beautiful lake, and traverse up some country roads to reach the course's remote destination. The reward is a great layout that winds through the rolling
countryside with hardly any residential building near the property.
The pristine location affords some outstanding mountain views, and on our July visit (after a very rainy spring) the course was in outstanding condition. The partial cart paths
present a rustic feel, but golfers will appreciate being able to drive directly to their ball on the fairways or rough. There are plentiful elevated tee areas, beginning with the very first
hole. Number 10 (a dogleg left from an extremely elevated tee) and the par three 11th over a pond are two gorgeous golf holes. The par five finishing hole is also superb - and
challenging, as pond short left and near the green on the right make for an extremely interesting approach.
On property is a clubhouse with pro shop and restaurant/lounge outdoor patio open for breakfast and lunch items. There is a separate room downstairs with bar, that can host
outings and special events. Practice facilities consist of a targeted grass range with both mat and grass hitting stations, plus putting/chipping green. On course the yardage
marking system consists of 100, 150 and 200 yard markers measured to the center of the green and small flags on the flagsticks indicate the daily pin placements. Par View GPS
on all cart also provides accurate info from tee to pin.
In total there are just 14 sand bunkers with all of them situated greenside. Thus golfers should be able to grip it and rip in on most holes, while avoiding the few strategically
located bunkers near the greens. Water hazards do come into play frequently, with ponds in play on 7 of the holes.
There are 3 sets of tee boxes that play to distance and slopes measuring 6570 yards/119 slope, 6303 yards/117 slope, and 5451 yards with a slope of 129 for ladies hitting from
the forward tees. As the slope ratings indicate - this is an enjoyable and playable golf experience for all levels of players.
We highly recommend a round here! The slope ratings are a bit deceiving - there is enough trouble on many of the holes, and the beauty of the course and surrounding area
certainly make play here worthwhile! For more info, visit our page for the course, with a direct link to their website by clicking here.
