HOMESTEAD AT LAKEWOOD GOLF CLUB (303-986-7888)
Colorado Golf Course Review
The Homestead in Lakewood is the sister course to Fox Hollow and presents a nice contrast of holes along this shorter course, which maxis out at 5048 yards. There are 9 par
fours (between 313 and 427 yards from the tips), one par five and 8 par threes with 4 on each side.
Four sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 5048 yards/120 slope, 4735 yards/118 slope, 4378 yards/113 slope and 3895 yards with a slope of 108 from the
red tees. Some of the par threes are quite interesting, and the entire course is keep in wonderful condition from tee to green, making this an enjoyable experience for all levels of
players. It is a perfect situation for beginners, juniors, families and high handicappers, but also has enough obstacles to challenge the games of top notch golfers.
There are three ponds on the course, which affects the tee shots or approaches on 5 of the holes, and 45 sand bunkers come into play near the landing zones or greenside. The
topography resembles that of a highland links layout, with rolling fairways and beautiful mountain backdrops. This is a pretty course and a delightful way for novices to learn to
appreciate the game of golf.
Native wild grasses and beautiful wildflowers frame many of the holes, providing aesthetic beauty and encouraging golfers to keep it on the fairways. The greens vary is size and
shape but are mostly large with considerable undulations and some tiers. The water holes are gorgeous and many of the par threes are memorable, including the pair of closing
holes that play from elevated tee boxes.
On property is a full service practice facility - another encouragement for beginners and families to visit, This includes a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker
plus putting green. The clubhouse features a pro shop and grill/lounge serving breakfast and lunch menus. On course 150 yard stakes are positioned on all par fours and fives,
sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green, and 100, 150 and 200 yard plates .are posted on the cart paths. The pin placements rotate from front to middle to back.
