KEYSTONE GOLF CLUB - Ranch Course (970-496-4250)
Colorado golf course review
Keystone Golf Club in Keystone Colorado features two distinctive championship golf courses. The Ranch course is a links inspired layout that was designed by Robert Trent
Jones Jr and opened for public play in 1980. The River Course at Keystone is a Hurdzan-Fry high woodlands design that is built on a rolling terrain and opened for play in the year 2000.
Located in the ski resort region between Denver and Vail, Keystone features a variety of resort accommodations - for more information visit Keystone's website by clicking here.
Both courses utilize the same marking systems, with sprinkler heads on the fairways and 100, 150, 200 yard markers on cart paths, plus 150 yard stakes measured to the center
of the green on all par fours and fives. Uniquely, the pin placement information on the Ranch course consists of color coded balls on top of the 150 stakes to indicate front, middle
or back hole locations (par threes have the markers on the tee boxes). The River course utilizes a more conventional system with color coded flags on the greens.
Keystone Ranch Course
On property of the Ranch course is a clubhouse with well stocked pro shop, locker rooms with showers plus restaurant/lounge open for breakfast sandwiches and lunch items
daily. Practice facilities consist of a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker plus putting green. The grass range features complimentary practice balls for golfers
paying the daily green fee. Each cart is equipped with a hole diagram booklet to assist golfers in planning their strategy.
There are 63 sand bunkers located near the landing zones off the tee or situated along the medium sized mildly undulating and well bunkered green complexes, and water
hazards come into play in some shape or form on 6 holes. There are several elevated tee boxes, including the opening par five, and golfers will encounter some forced carries
over the natural areas that abound on this course. The links style layout rollingly winds through prairie lands that feature native wildflowers and tall grasses, with meandering
creeks and ponds along the way.
There are 4 sets of tee boxes that play to distance and slopes measuring 7017 yards/142 slope,6504 yards/1132 slope, 6034 yards/11121 slope for men 143 for women, and
5041 yardswith a slope of 127 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. There is also an set of beginners tees that measure 2635 yards.
