POLE CREEK GOLF CLUB (970) 887-9195
Colorado golf course review
Pole Creek Golf Club in Winter Park, is a beautiful 27 hole championship facility that has been honored with numerous awards by various publications including: Best Course in
Rocky Mountain region in 2006/07 by Zagat Survey of America's top Courses, 4 stars out of five by Golf Digest Places to Play (2008), plus 6 Readers Choice Awards from Colorado Avid Golfer.
Located near major highways just south of Granby, Pole Creek features 3 distinctive nine hole layouts, with a combined top yardage of 7065. Recent updates include a new
irrigation system (2009) that helps the property to provide consistently fine playing conditions from tee to green. Any combination of the 3 nines results in a fair yet challenging
round of golf for all levels of players.
On property is a clubhouse with well stocked pro shop and restaurant/lounge with outdoor patio, serving breakfast and lunch menus (Sun - Thurs until 7 pm) with dinner offered
Friday and Saturday from 5:30 - 9 pm. Practice facilities consist of a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker plus putting green. On course the yardage marking
system consists 150 yard posts on the fairways and 100, 150 and 200 yard markers on all par fours and fives. Color coded flags indicate the daily front, middle or back pin placements.
The photos in this review are of the Meadow and Ridge layouts. The Ranch Course opens with a beautiful dogleg right par four to a tree lined fairway, and the remainder of the
design winds through meadowlands of the Fraser Valley. The Meadows plays along similar terrain and features one of the properties toughest golf holes. The dogleg left par five
7th provides a very tight landing zone for the 2nd shot (a narrow peninsula area), with the approach uphill to a well bunkered green complex. The fairways of the Meadows are
rolling and bordered by native high grasses with a variety of green complexes - some relatively flat and others ridged or double tiered.
The Ridge scales a hillside and presents breathtaking views of the Indian Peaks Wilderness area and Never Summer Mountains. The course features some extremely uphill
approach shots and ends from an elevated tee with a beautiful dogleg right par five. There are 4 sets of tee boxes that play to slopes varying from 118 to 145 for men and 125 to
155 for women, with the Meadows and Ranch nines presenting the greatest challenge. The total yardages range from 4863 to 7065.
In total, there are 90 sand bunkers and 14 holes with water in some shape or form on the 27 holes. This is a gorgeous facility with excellent service and playing conditions. For
