RED HAWK RIDGE GOLF CLUB (720-733-3500)
Colorado Golf Course Review
Red Hawk Ridge at Castle Rock is a beautifully designed 18-hole championship layout that affords golfers of all abilities with the opportunity to enjoy a fun yet challenging round.
Jim Engh sculpted the course into the natural rolling terrain in the foothills of Colorado's front range, providing dramatic elevation changes, abundant wildlife, and sweeping
panoramic vistas of the Castle Rock, surrounding buttes, and the Rocky Mountains.
Bent grass tees and greens and well manicured bluegrass fairways offer wonderful playing conditions, and excellent amenities and service make this one of the area's most
popular golf destinations. More than 35 hitting stations are available on the targeted grass range and a large practice green (3000 square feet) is also on property. A dedicated
staff of PGA professionals provides private and group instruction.
The clubhouse includes a nicely stocked pro shop plus restaurant that serves a lunch menu daily. A full menu can be viewed and downloaded through the properties' website. All
carts are equipped with coolers and a beverage/snack cart makes the rounds daily. On course golfers will find yardage markers at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and sprinkler heads
are also measured to the center of the green. Pin placement sheets on the carts indicate the days hole locations.
Five sets of tees play to distances and slopes that measure 6859 yards/130 slope, 6276 yards/124 slope, 5923 yards/117 slope, 5356 yards/125 slope for women, and 4636
yards with a slope of 111 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. Golfers will have to adjust their club selection, as there is very little even ground - shots are consistently playing
uphill or down. The perimeter mounding and slopes often produce a bowl effect both along the fairways and greenside.
There are 41 soft sand bunkers and water hazards come into play on three holes. The par threes are especially strong, with the 6th playing over water and the 14 playing from an
elevated tee to a tiered putting surface, being two of our favorite holes. The elevation changes along the layout are often dramatic, with the par four 4th and the par five closing hole
providing strategic greenside ponds that also add to the aesthetic beauty.
There are a few forced carries especially from the two back sets, but the mid and forward tees are especially player-friendly. Red Hawk Ridge is a beautiful course that should be
on everyone's list of places to play in the Denver area. For more info, visit our page for the property, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
