RIVER VALLEY RANCH GOLF CLUB (970) 963-3625
Colorado golf course review
River Valley Ranch Golf Club in Carbondale (west of Aspen) is a beautiful Jay Morrish championship design that meanders through a 520 acre residential/resort community in the
majestic Crystal River Valley. This mountain course is carved into the valley floor and features a rolling terrain with natural wetlands and tall native grasses – a natural environment
that has gained recognition from the National Golf Course Superintendents Association with its prestigious Environmental Steward Award (1997).
The valley setting allows for golf 8 months out of the year, and River Valley residents and visitors to the area can take advantage, as this course is always open for public play.
River Valley Ranch prides itself on being a public golf course with the feel of a private club. In fact, staff greets you at your car and puts your clubs on your cart - all of which are
equipped with a GPS, clean towel, water, and a club and ball washer. Other club amenities include a well stocked pro shop, Hattie Thompson restaurant offering dining for lunch,
happy hour and dinner as well as Sunday Brunch, and practice facilities that feature a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker, plus putting green.
There are 4 sets of tee boxes with distances and slopes measuring 7348 yards/136 slope, slope, 6600 yards/129 slope, 5964 yards/116 slope , and 5168 yards with a slope of
121 for ladies hitting from the forward sets. On course sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green and 150 yard stakes are positioned in the fairways on all par fours
and fives, Color coded flags indicate the day's front, middle or back hole locations. Ice chests are standard on all golf carts.
River Valley Ranch features bent grass greens and well manicured bluegrass fairways and tees, with tall native high grasses framing the perimeters. There are 78 soft sand
bunkers strategically located near the landing zones or situated greenside, and water comes into play (frequently in the form of creek crossings) on 8 holes. The partial cart path
system creates convenience as players can usually drive directly to their ball.
The green complexes here are forgiving, with large true rolling putting surfaces often protected by sand traps, but with significant recovery room. There also is plentiful room along
the rolling fairways. As the slope ratings indicate, this is a challenging experience from the tips, and is very user friendly form the alternate tee boxes.
Golfers of all abilities will appreciate the spectacular mountain vistas and serene environment. Avoid the creek crossings and penal fairways traps, and good scores can be had.
We highly recommend a round here. For more information, visit our page for River Valley Ranch with direct link to their website by clicking here
