SADDLE ROCK GOLF COURSE (303-699-3939)
Colorado golf course review
Saddle Rock Golf Course is a gorgeous muni course owned and operated by the City of Aurora - in our estimation one of the prettiest city run layouts we have encountered. This
course has in the past hosted the Colorado Open and numerous statewide amateur and professional events. It is consistently rated as one of the top ten courses in the state by
local newspapers and various golf publications.
Conveniently located near major highways and south of the metro area, Saddle Rock is a par 72 championship facility that is an Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary, and
has earned a 4 star rating by Golf Digest Places to Play. The course features an extremely rolling terrain with some surprising elevation changes. The topography includes
plentiful native areas, meandering creeks, strategically placed trees and a good variety of green complexes.
On property is a clubhouse with well stocked pro shop and restaurant/lounge with large outdoor patio that can host large and small outings and events. Practice facilities consist
of a targeted grass range plus putting/chipping green. On course the yardage marking system consists of sprinklers heads measured to the center of the green and 100,150 and
200 yard markers on the fairways on all par fours and fives and every 25 yards on the cart paths. Color coded flags provide info on the daily front, middle and back pin placements.
There are 46 soft sand bunkers located along the landing zones or greenside, and water hazards come into play on 3 holes. On the front nine, there is a stretch of holes that
alternate between playing uphill and downhill. The par four 4th plays at least 50 yards longer due to its uphill nature, and number 7 also plays uphill. Numbers 6 and 8 begin from
extremely elevated tee areas. Though a links style design, there are a few woodland type holes (# 10, 11 and 12) on the backside. Number 17 and 18 demand carries over marsh
areas and make up a nice pair of finishing holes.
There are 5 sets of tee boxes that play to distance and slopes measuring 7351 yards/140 slope, 6941 yards/139 slope, 6561 yards/130 slope, 6109 yards/117 slope for men and
137 for women, and 5407 yards with a slope of 126 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. This is a challenging course - but golfers that land on the greens in regulation will have
good birdie opportunities, as the putting surfaces roll true and are only mildly undulating.
Making a recommendation to play here is a no brainer. This is a gorgeous course with a versatile design and great variety of holes. Walking is allowed at all times and the property
is known for consistently good conditioning and service. For more info, visit our page for the property, with a direct link to their website by clicking here.
