SNOWMASS GOLF CLUB (970) 923-5700
Colorado golf course review
Snowmass Golf Club in Snowmass Village west of Aspen, is a gorgeous Jim Engh championship course that affords members and guests with one of the finest golfing
experiences in Colorado. This course is also available for limited play to the public.
Opened in 2004, Snowmass was selected as the Best New Course in Colorado by Golf Magazine, and was also named as the 6th Best New Upscale Course by Golf Digest. The
stadium design greens provide a unique bowl effect, and the signature, dramatically and intricately designed sand bunkers provide a fair amount of challenge to compliment the
aesthetic qualities of this beautiful course.
Frequent elevated tee areas provide stunning vistas of Mount Daley and the Snowmass ski area. The course is generally open for play (weather permitting) from early may to early
October, with upscale amenities, conditioning and service. On property is a fully stocked pro shop, locker rooms with showers, and Black Saddle Grill (open for lunch daily and
dinner Monday and Friday.
The practice facilities are comprehensive, and include a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker, plus large putting green. All carts are equipped with rear covers,
ice chests and ball & club washers. The course is well marked with yardage plates at 100, 150 and 200 (250 on par fives) on the fairways and cart paths. Sprinkler heads are
measured to the center of the green and pin placement charts are mounted on the golf carts.
There are 44 soft sand bunkers strategically located near the landing zones off the tee, or situated greenside. Water is a strong feature here, as hazards come into play in some
shape or form on 13 holes. Golfers will encounter rolling fairways that often slope in one direction or another, which are often flanked by mounding or tall native grasses. With the
deep, sometimes narrow and intricately designed greenside traps and protruding mounds, players will have their hands full in trying to recover form offline approach shots.
There are 5 sets of tee boxes with distances and slopes measuring 7008 yards/146 slope, slope, 6559 yards/137 slope for men – 145 for women, 6126 yards/121 slope for men
- 140 for women, 5471 yards/113 slope for men and 132 for women and 4736 yards with a slope of 101 for men and 119 for ladies hitting from the forward sets. As the slope
ratings indicate - this is a true testy from the black and blue tees, but Snowmass provides mid to high handicappers with an opportunity to experience an enjoyable round from the
3 alternate tees.
If you have an opportunity to play here - don't pass it up...great course, wonderful facilities, great service and wonderful conditioning. For more info, visit our page for the course,
